COMPANY REPORT · CUSTOMER SUPPORTBoth tests met

Uber

Community-operations customer-service team cut 10% in July 2026, with an internal memo citing the need to layer AI onto the work.

What happened

An internal vice-president’s memo said the company needed an effective organisation to layer AI onto the work. Uber described the change as an embrace of AI and part of a broader effort to achieve AI-based efficiencies.

Attribution and company response

Revenue held, staff cut. The published revenue comparison held or grew — $52.0bn in 2025, up 18.3%. This clears the tracker’s revenue screen; it does not prove AI substitution, completed departures or the absence of financial pressure.

THE COMPANY DENIES THIS

Two other Uber rounds were explicitly NOT AI. A September 2026 cut of roughly 3,300 roles was framed by CEO Dara Khosrowshahi as excess management layers, and a June 2026 People and Places reduction was also denied an AI role. Only the July 2026 community-operations action is tracked here.

Consolidated company figures. Acquisitions, disposals, taxes and changes in reporting scope can affect comparisons. This series does not isolate AI effects.

* Calculated by subtracting reported periods: usually cumulative total minus the previous cumulative total, or full year minus nine months for Q4. Monday.com Q1 is half year minus Q2. Click a value for its source; click * for the subtracted period. Some calculations use different filings and may be affected by restatements. Fiscal dates differ between companies; compare the same season a year earlier.

Worker pay remains annual in the compensation table. Missing quarterly pay or headcount is not interpolated. This is financial-history coverage, not a complete assessment of who benefits.

Sources & limits

Revenue is not profit. These figures may cover different periods and do not isolate the effects of AI. Median pay includes more than salary and can change with workforce composition; it does not track raises for the same employees.

The absolute headcount was never disclosed, so the 10% has no denominator in public. An in-person relocation directive issued at the same time may have mattered as much as the AI rationale.

CEO pay derived from median × ratio. The median excludes the contractor workforce entirely, which is the largest group of people doing work for the company.

Executive pay & historical figures

Annual stock awards can make CEO pay and its ratio swing sharply. No fairness rating is assigned to this ratio.

Workforce and outcome context

Uber reported approximately 34,000 employees at year-end 2025. This is not a denominator for customer-support cuts and does not count all drivers or couriers as employees.
